Balcatta Panel and Paint: Your Certified WOVE Inspection Station in Perth

Handling a written-off vehicle can be overwhelming, from the time and money invested in car repairs to navigating the complex regulations in Western Australia. If you’ve had a written-off vehicle repaired, the next step is ensuring your vehicle passes the mandatory Written-Off Vehicle Examination. This inspection is the final guarantee that your vehicle is restored to its original manufacturer’s safety specifications.

Balcatta Panel and Paint is your certified Written-Off Vehicles (WOV) inspection station in WA, providing the assessment and certification required by the Department of Transport (DOT). We conduct all the essential structural and safety procedures, ensuring that your vehicle is structurally sound and compliant, giving you total peace of mind whenever you hit the road.

What is a WOV Inspection and Why is it Necessary?

Before a written-off vehicle can be returned to the road, it has to undergo an inspection conducted by a Written-Off Inspection Examiner (WOVE). WOVEs will ensure that the repairs to the structural integrity, electrical systems and welds of your vehicle are compliant with manufacturers’ standards and that repairs have been made to a professional standard of workmanship.

Conducting a WOV inspection is essential to confirming that the vehicle is not only up to the manufacturer’s original standards but also adheres to all Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and mandated safety requirements. This process protects the integrity of the vehicle and the safety of all road users.

Upon successful completion of the inspection, the examiner will issue you with a Repairable Vehicle Report and Major Component/Panel List that must be presented to an Authorised Inspection Station (AIS) for a roadworthy examination.

The WOV Process

Step One: Paperwork Preparation

All original receipts for major parts purchased must be presented, and receipts for repairs must be paired with photographs taken throughout the repair process. All receipts must also adhere to the Australian Tax Office requirements for the GST, including the:

  • Name, address, and ABN, ACN of the business that sold the parts
  • Date of purchase
  • Purchase price and GST amount
  • Full description of parts and components

Note: Second-hand parts require the Vehicle Identification Number of the donor vehicle, the seller’s name, and the driver’s licence number.

Step Two: Presenting the Vehicle to a WOV Business

The vehicle must be presented to a WOV Business for inspection after the replacement of any panels, structural members and after welding has been undertaken, but before the application of body filler, paint, trims, and carpeting.

Once the documentation is approved, the examiners begin conducting the physical inspection. This includes using specialised measuring equipment to check your vehicle’s structural integrity and components, ensuring they meet the manufacturer’s factory specifications.

Upon completion of the examination, the WOV Business will provide you with:

  • Receipts
  • Photographs
  • Repairable Write-Off Vehicle Report
  • A Major Component/Panel List form

However, if your vehicle has failed the examination, you will be advised of the reasons and requirements needed to complete the subsequent examination.

Step Three: Vehicle Examination

Once the vehicle has passed the WOV inspection, it must be presented to an Authorised Inspection Station (AIS), which cannot be the business that performed the repairs, for an identity and roadworthy examination. This is where your vehicle’s general safety and mechanical condition are checked. If your vehicle passes the AIS examination, the final step is to license the vehicle with DOT.
